Spam Calls Are Eating Your Workday. Here's What Screening Looks Like.

Ask a small business owner what bugs them most about the phone and you'd expect to hear about missed customers. Often you hear about spam first.

One owner we talked to gets a spam or sales call about every half hour, all day long. When he heard the agent could screen them out, that was the feature he wanted to talk about first.

Do the math on your own phone

A spam call doesn't take long. You see an unknown number, you pick up in case it's a customer, you hear the pause or the pitch, you hang up. Call it a minute or two, plus the time it takes to get your head back into whatever you were doing.

Now multiply. At one every half hour across a 10-hour day, that's about 20 calls. At one to two minutes each, you're losing 20 to 40 minutes a day to calls that were never going to pay you. Over a five-day week, that's roughly two to three hours.

Do the math on your own phone: one spam call every 30 minutes, about 20 calls a day, 20 to 40 minutes a day, two to three hours a week.

Then there's the cost you don't see. Every spam call trains you to stop picking up unknown numbers. The day you let one go to voicemail, it's a homeowner with a leaking water heater, and she calls the next plumber on the list.

That's the trap. Spam makes you screen your own calls, and screening your own calls costs you real customers.

What screening looks like

An AI agent on your line answers every call the same way a good front desk would. The difference is what happens in the first few seconds.

A robocall or recorded message gets ended. You never hear about it.

A sales pitch gets a polite "no thank you." The agent doesn't book them, transfer them or pass along their offer.

A real customer gets a real conversation. The agent asks what they need, answers questions about your services and area, and collects their name, number and the details of the job. Then you get a text summarizing the call, and if you use a calendar, the job can be booked straight into it.

Someone you know can ring straight through to you, depending on your carrier. We test that during setup.

The result is a phone that only rings for work. Unknown numbers stop being a gamble, because the agent picks up every one of them for you.

Why owners name this first

Missing a customer is painful, but it happens out of sight. You often don't know which call you lost. Spam is different. You feel every one of them, in the middle of a job, at dinner, on a Saturday.

That's why, when we walk owners through what an AI agent does, screening is often the feature that gets the first reaction. It's the problem they can feel today.

What you keep

You keep your number. Calls forward to the agent, so your listings on Google, Angie's and Thumbtack stay exactly as they are. You keep control too. You decide whether the agent answers every call, only the ones you miss, or only after hours.

You also get a record. Every real call is logged with a short summary, so you can look back at the week and see who called, what they wanted and what got booked.

And you keep your focus. The 20 to 40 minutes a day you were giving to spam goes back into the work that pays.

Your phone should ring for customers. Everything else can stay off it.

Try it on a demo line

The best way to judge screening is to test it. Call our demo line at 559-242-9439. Pretend to be a customer, then call back and pretend to be a salesperson. Listen to how it handles each one.
